Great Lakes BioFuels, LLC (GLBF) is a privately-held biodiesel distribution and services company. We provide the highest quality, ASTM certified biodiesel to our customers, along with professional support for the production, distribution and use of the fuel. The company is also involved in biofuel raw materials (feedstock) research and supply-chain development.

Leveraging new federal tax credits and targeting southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois markets, GLBF is working to increase biodiesel availability and make its Clean Green BioDiesel a cost competitive, clean-burning, renewable alternative to petroleum diesel.

Our Executive Team

The company is led by renewable fuel veterans H. Tony Hartmann, Jamie Derr, Dr. Mark Daugherty and Seth Keel.

H. Tony Hartmann is Great Lakes BioFuels' CEO, with more than 25 years of management, sales, marketing, training and development experience. He has experience in several industries to draw upon, including alternative energy, computer hardware, commercial real estate and communications, where in 1996 he founded the training firm CommunicArts. Most recently Mr. Hartmann worked for the hydrogen technology start-up Virent Energy Systems where he was responsible for grant management, marketing, business development, H.R., public/press relations and facility development. He has a Masters in International Management from the Garvin School of International Management (Thunderbird) in Phoenix, AZ.

Jamie Derr is a farming member of the Wisconsin Soy Marketing Board, a biodiesel pioneer and grassroots organizer. Since 2002, he has conducted conferences and workshops throughout the country promoting the many benefits of biodiesel. As an advocate for biofuels, he has testified successfully on behalf of the Wisconsin Clean School Bus Initiative and has been an active member of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) since its infancy. As a farmer, through agriculture and ag’ technology research, he has become an influential source for policy development and biofuels enterprise in the state of Wisconsin. He is the working head of distribution and logistics for GLBF, holding the title Chief Operating Officer for the company.

Dr. Mark Daugherty has over 25 years of experience in energy research and development. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer at Great Lakes BioFuels. Prior to Great Lakes Mark served as the CEO of Virent Energy Systems, where he lead the team while it set up operations to develop a new reforming technology for the production of hydrogen from biomass. Prior to Virent Mark was the Chief Scientist at Enable Fuel Cell Corp. where he supervised the development of fuel cell technologies licensed from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Earlier he served as a Principal Investigator at Los Alamos National Laboratory and as R&D Manager at Superconductivity Inc. Mark has over 25 technical publications. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UW Madison and a JD from Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley.

Seth Keel is the Vice President of Business Development for GLBF. Seth is the President of an IT consulting firm that has worked on multi-million dollar contracts with national and multinational companies such as KMart and Trane. He is the IT Manager for the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research housed on the UW Madison campus and the owner and operator of two small real estate companies. His awareness and environmental concerns have lead him to run for political office. His diverse blend of highly technical and business/managerial skills give him the ability to not only understand and stay on top of emerging green technologies, but to also understand how to translate them into real world business opportunities for Great Lakes. He has been running veggie oil and home brewing biodiesel since 2004.
